Nyamba Buru Yawuru joins forces with Small Business Centre West Kimberley
The Small Business Centre West Kimberley (SBCWK) is very pleased to announce that Nyamba Buru Yawuru Ltd has signed on as major sponsor for the 2014 West Kimberley Small Business Awards.
“We have made some significant changes to the Awards process this year, so it is especially exciting to have Nyamba Buru Yawuru as our major partner,” says SBCWK Manager Kevin Smith. “Their commitment to generate economic opportunities for Yawuru people, the native title holders of the Broome region, is a great match for our commitment to support the small business sector in the region”, he adds.
This is the first time that the West Kimberley Awards have been offered on annual basis, instead of every two years. One benefit of this is that local winners will automatically qualify for entry to the prestigious Western Australian Regional Small Business Awards later this year.
“We have also made the submission process easier, to encourage more businesses to get involved”, says Kevin. “Particularly significant, given our new partnership, is that although only privately owned, profit led businesses are accepted in other categories, there may be exceptions for the Aboriginal category, providing the profits are divided between the owner/directors/community.”
“We are delighted to partner with the Small Business Centre in this important event”, comments Nyamba Buru Yawuru Ltd General Manager Commerce Dean Newton. “We see it as an excellent opportunity to contribute to the local economy, and support small businesses across Broome and the West Kimberley”.
Businesses can enter the 2014 West Kimberley Small Businesses in one of seven different categories:
• Home-based business
• Aboriginal business
• Franchise business
• Business with 1 to 5 employees (Micro business)
• Business with 6 to 10 employees
• Business with 11 to 20 employees
• Small Business Achiever
The closing date for entries is 24th May 2014, with the Awards being presented at a gala presentation night at the Cable Beach Club Resort on 28th June.
