The Federal resources minister has decided to allow Browse Basin gas companies to develop a new development plan.
Gary Gray has removed a condition that had required the five Commonwealth gas retention leases to be developed using a proposed refinery at James Price Point.
This would allow them to use Shell’s floating liquid natural gas (FLNG) facility instead.
WA Premier Colin Barnett has repeatedly said he would cancel the two remaining retention leases controlled by the state if owners did not use the onshore facility.
